Atelier Azrou
Cedar woodwork & marquetry · Azrou, Middle Atlas
In the cedar forests above Azrou, Hassan Idrissi's family have shaped wood for three generations. Atelier Azrou pairs traditional hand-tool marquetry — the geometric inlay work the Middle Atlas is known for — with pieces sized for a life outside Morocco: jewelry boxes, chess sets, mirror frames. Every board is cut from cedar felled under Morocco's managed forestry program, then joined and inlaid entirely by hand in a workshop that still trains apprentices the old way.
Each listing notes the cedar grade and inlay wood species (thuya burl, walnut, lemonwood) so buyers know exactly what's in their piece before it ships.

What buyers say
4.8(5)"The marquetry is even crisper in person. Hassan included a little note about which workshop apprentice cut the inlay — a nice touch."
"Bought this as a retirement gift. The weight and finish feel like a real heirloom, not a tourist souvenir."
"Beautiful tray, slightly smaller than I pictured from the photos, but the thuya inlay border is gorgeous."
